FineReader Sprint Export Parameters

Recognized text can be saved to a file or sent by email in any of the export formats supported by FineReader Sprint.

PDF Export Parameters

The following options are available in this pane:

  1. Export mode
    • Text and pictures only
This mode saves recognized text and pictures. The page will be fully searchable and the size of the PDF file will be small. The appearance of the resulting document may slightly differ from that of the original.
    • Text over the page image
This option saves the background and pictures of the original document and places the recognized text over them. Usually, this type of PDF requires more disk space than "Text and pictures only". The resulting PDF document is fully searchable. In some cases, the appearance of the resulting document may slightly differ from that of the original.
    • Text under the page image
This option saves the entire page image and places the recognized text underneath. Use this option to create a fully searchable document that looks virtually the same as the original.
    • Page image only
This option saves an exact image of the page. This type of PDF document will be virtually indistinguishable from the original but the file will not be searchable.

Note: PDF export parameters depend on the export mode you select. Thus, some parameters may be unavailable in certain modes.

  2. Retain layout
    • Keep page numbers, headers and footers
Select this option to save the header and footer text and page numbers. No headers, footers, or page numbers will be saved when this option is disabled.
    • Keep pictures
Select this option to save pictures in the recognized text. The quality of pictures and the size of the resulting file depend on the option you select in "Image quality".
    • Compress images using MRC
Select this option to retain the visual quality of the text and the pictures in a highly compressed document. As a result, the target file will be small with high quality text and pictures.
  3. Image quality

If the recognized text contains a lot of pictures or you have selected a mode that saves a page image, the resulting file can be very large. You can reduce the size of the output file by adjusting the quality of pictures to be exported:

    • Low
Select this option if you want to obtain a small PDF document. Resolution of the page image and pictures will be reduced to 150 dpi, which will affect the quality.
    • Balanced
Select this option to reduce the file size and maintain a high quality of the page image and pictures.
    • High
Select this option to maintain the original quality of the page image and pictures.

Tip: Deselect "Keep pictures" if you do not need the pictures in the recognized text.

  4. Paper size

You can set the paper size to be used when exporting the results to PDF. Select a supported paper size from the drop-down list or enter your own size by selecting "Custom size".

  5. Text settings
    • Keep text and background colors
Select this option to retain the font color and background when saving in PDF.
  6. PDF options
    • Make document PDF/A compliant
Select this option to create a fully searchable PDF document for archiving purposes that looks like the original.
    • Create outline
Select this option to create a table of contents from chapter headings in the PDF document.
    • Enable PDF tagging
Select this option to add PDF tags into the output PDF document.

In addition to text and illustrations, PDF files can contain information about the document structure, such as logical parts, pictures, and tables. This information is encoded in PDF tags. A PDF file equipped with PDF tags may be reflowed to fit different screen sizes and will display well on handheld devices.

Important! If your recognized document contains text in Hebrew or Yiddish, you cannot create a tagged PDF file.

    • Embed fonts
Select this option to embed the fonts into the PDF document.
DOCX/RTF/ODT Export Parameters

The following options are available in this pane:

  1. Retain layout

    • Editable copy
Produces a document whose formatting may differ slightly from that of the original. A document produced in this mode is easy to edit.
    • Formatted text
Retains fonts, font sizes, and paragraphs, but does not retain the exact spacing or locations of the objects on the page. The resulting text will be aligned to the left. Text in a right-to-left language will be aligned to the right.

Image Export Parameters
  1. Format

For the complete list of supported formats, see Supported Image Formats.

  2. Color

Select "Full color" if you need to save the page image in color. Select Grayscale if you do not need to retain the color and want to reduce the file size.

Note. The Color parameter is not available when saving to JBIG2.

  3. Compression

When saving in the TIFF format, you can select an image compression method to reduce the file size. Two factors affect the choice of compression method: the desired quality of the output file and its size.

How to select an image compression method:

    • Zip compression — Does not cause a loss of data and is suitable for images containing large areas in one color, for example, screen shots. This method is also suitable for black-and-white images.
    • JPEG compression — Used for grayscale and color images, for example, photos. This method can significantly reduce the size of the output file but it causes a loss of data and reduced image quality (for example, blurred outlines and fewer color shades).
    • Packbits — Does not result in a loss of data and is suitable for scanned black-and-white images.
    • LZW compression — Does not result in a loss of data and is suitable for graphics and grayscale images.
    • CCIT Group 4 — No data loss. Commonly used for black-and-white images created in graphical programs or scanned images. The CCITT Group 4 compression is a widespread compression method applied to virtually all images.
