Automatic Image Preprocessing
The quality of recognition results largely depends on the quality of original images. It can be adversely affected by skewed lines, noise, and other defects commonly found in scanned images and digital pictures.
These defects can be eliminated with the automatic image preprocessing available in FineReader Sprint. Depending on the type of input image, the application automatically decides what actions to take and applies the necessary corrections.
Automatic preprocessing can be very time consuming. To avoid this, you can only select those preprocessing options that are required for a specific image.
To specify image preprocessing options:
- Choose FineReader Sprint > Preferences.
- Select the desired preprocessing options in the image import dialog. For more information, see "How to Get a Document Image".
The following image preprocessing options are available:
- "Enhance images"
Automatically performs corrections required for a particular image. For example, the program can automatically remove noise from a digital photo or deskew an image. - "Split facing pages"
Separates an image of facing book pages into two separate images, one for each page. - "Detect page orientation"
Detects the text orientation and rotates the image accordingly.
You can also select automatic image preprocessing options immediately before importing an image in the image scanning and importing dialogs. For more information, see "How to Get a Document Image".
Tip: If image preprocessing was disabled while scanning or opening images, you can edit the image manually using the tools in the Image Editor. For more information, see "How to Edit Images Manually".
