What are OCR systems?

OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, is a technology designed to convert the scans of printed documents, digital photos, and PDFs into editable text files.

To translate a printed document into a digital format and make changes to the text, scanning the document is not enough. You need OCR software to extract data from the scan. OCR software will identify letters and words in the image and produce an electronic document which can be edited and searched.
